Among likely voters, 63% said they would support the initiative, including 49% of registered Republicans. The poll also showed that Californians rank education as the number one issue facing the state in 2006.
Campaign manager Ben Austin responded to PPIC poll showing 66% of Californians support Preschool for All:
“It doesn’t get much better than this for a ballot measure in California. This poll confirms that voters solidly support the Preschool for All initiative, and it puts our campaign in a very strong position for the June election. The bottom line is that Californians understand the importance of investing in our children and improving our schools. That’s why Preschool for All has been endorsed by the broadest bipartisan coalition in California, including three of the state’s largest chambers of commerce, SEIU – California’s largest labor union, and leaders like Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, and former Education Secretary Richard Riordan.”
Preschool for All will guarantee access to quality preschool for all children one-year before kindergarten. The program will be part-day, voluntary, and will allow parents to choose the preschool program that best meets their needs.
